DOOM Release Day is nearly upon us (PS4, Xbox, PC)

Doomsday is upon us! (See what I did there?)

Tomorrow sees the release of one of the years most anticipated games, Doom! Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks and the first major installment in the series since Doom 3 in 2004. Called by many as Doom 4 this game will reboot the series and try to captivate fans the way the original Doom did all the way back in 1993.

Doom was described as having “badass demons, big effing guns, and moving really fast” as key principles, according to id Software executive producer Marty Stratton. The game will feature an array of weapons which can be freely switched by players throughout the game. The game also sees the return of such weapons as the super shotgun and the BFG 9000.

The campaign is designed to give players a super-fast feel to gameplay. The games combat system, known as “push forward combat” will have players charging towards enemies and see them use features such as double jumping instead of covering behind obstacles. Rather than covering behind obstacles to regain health, health and armour pickups are scattered throughout the game. id Software states that Doom’s campaign will be more than 13 hours long and the “Ultra-Nightmare” difficulty level will have permadeath.

Doom ran an open beta across all platforms from April 15th to April 18th. Players got to use some features in the multiplayer part of the game and get a feel for the upcoming release. During the beta a whopping 63% of Steam users gave it a negative review. Not something you like to hear about a game that has such high expectations.

So with all that in mind. Will you be picking up Doom? Did you play the beta? How was it? Let us know in the comments below!
